MRL's drive design was made possible by two main factors: compact controller innovation and an inspection/test panel. In these MRL models, compact controls fit into the wall of the elevator's upper landing, and key test and maintenance functions can be hidden behind the elevator's access panel to allow construction personnel, elevator mechanics, and inspectors to access critical products. This inspection and test panel typically includes a main line switch where construction personnel may need to turn off the power. There is also a separate lockable panel with an elevator mechanical service port and access to safety circuits for emergency or troubleshooting. In most jurisdictions, security tests can also be performed by this panel.
